Hydrophilic PTFE Pleated Filter

Product ID: hydrophilic-ptfe-pleated-filter|Hydrophilic PTFE

Hydrophilic PTFE pleated filter element designed for use in highly corrosive aqueous solutions. The filter membrane has undergone special hydrophilic treatment before leaving the factory, so it can be used directly on the machine without tedious alcohol soaking. Biaxially stretched membrane pore technology is used to ensure extremely uniform pore size distribution and long life. The entire range is produced in Class 1,000 or 10,000 clean rooms to ensure no fiber release and complies with FDA 21 CFR and EU RoHS regulations. Offering a complete accuracy range of 20nm to 10μm, it is the top choice for semiconductor chemicals, pharmaceutical processes and ultrapure water.

Where it fits

The hydrophilic PTFE pleated cartridge is built for aggressive aqueous solutions: etchants, strippers, developers and cleaning agents — chemistries that attack ordinary polymer membranes yet are water-based. It shows up in semiconductor chemical supply, pharmaceutical processing and ultrapure water systems, all sharing the same problem: harsh chemistry, aqueous stream.

Key characteristics

PTFE is inherently hydrophobic and normally needs an alcohol wet before it will pass water. This cartridge is hydrophilic-treated at the factory, so there is no alcohol soak at start-up and no subsequent flush-out labour or residue risk. On a line that changes elements often, what you save is downtime at every change-out.

The membrane is biaxially stretched with high porosity and a uniform pore distribution. Four diameters are offered from Ø68 to Ø208; a single Ø208 element carries at least 3.3 m2 of membrane, over four times the Ø68 (at least 0.74 m2). For high-flow duty a single large-diameter element cuts both pressure drop and the number of sealing points.

Choosing between options

All three resist chemistry; they differ in wettability and hardware:

CartridgeWettabilityHardwareRating range
Hydrophilic PTFE pleated (this)Hydrophilic treated, alcohol-freePP0.05 – 10 µm
Hydrophobic PTFE pleatedHydrophobic, aqueous needs wettingPP0.05 – 5 µm
PVDF pleatedHydrophilic or hydrophobicAll-PVDF0.1 – 1 µm

Operation & change-out

No alcohol pre-wetting: flush forward with process liquid or purified water and vent trapped air. Change out when ΔP reaches 3–5 times the clean initial value or 0.24 MPa (35 psi).

i
Maximum forward ΔP is 5.2 bar for Ø68 and 4.2 bar for Ø83 and above, with reverse ratings of 2.1 and 1.7 bar. The larger diameters are rated lower, so check the system pressure ceiling when moving up a size.
Why does hydrophilic PTFE need no alcohol wetting?
The membrane is given a special hydrophilic treatment at the factory so aqueous solutions wet through directly, letting it run without a tedious alcohol soak. This shortens start-up, cuts alcohol use and waste handling, which benefits clean processes.
How are pore uniformity and life ensured?
The membrane is made with biaxially stretched pore technology, giving extremely uniform pore distribution for more consistent retention, steadier pressure drop and very long service life. Uniform pores matter most for semiconductor and pharma processes needing stable performance.
What fluids and rating range does it cover?
It is designed for corrosive aqueous solutions and serves semiconductor chemicals, pharmaceutical processing and ultrapure water. The full range runs 20nm to 10μm, allowing staging from nanometer-class fine filtration to coarser pre-filtration to balance purity and life.
